Dream careers

I keep having days where I question if being a Veterinary Technician is what I want to do with my life.

I spent two years at a private university trying to decide what to do with my life, changing from this major to that major every few weeks. Nothing felt right. Then I finally decided to go to school for my vet tech license. Now I can’t seem to get in to take my test due to some mistakes by the school. 😦 I have classmates who’ve passed and classmates who’ve failed the test which frightens me.

I work mostly as a receptionist, but have recently been able to tech some days too. But the long break I took from teching has really hurt me I feel. I wasn’t practicing the skills or learning new tid-bits from the doctor. Very nerve wracking when it comes time to take your licensing exams. Hmph.

Anyways…Most days I wish I was one of those people who had their life plan when they were 9 years old, who followed through and are now successful. But then I realize, I would not be where I am today if I would’ve stuck to my 9 year old career goal (although, I’m still waiting for them to announce that I’m the lost princess of somewhere :P). Working in retail, managing a waterpark, running my own business….so many different experiences, all of which taught me valuable things.

I give props to the people who went straight for their dream career. But at the same time, I’m so thankful to whoever created this path for my life because I’ve learned so many things about myself, animals, business, and people too! Some people may not get to have all of the experiences I have. Why grow up so quickly anyways? Will you really have time to do all that stuff when you’re older and well off? I mean, I don’t know about you, but at 22 I can already tell I can’t handle as much craziness as I used to! 😀

But for now, I will just accept being in limbo about my ultimate future plans, and focus more on enjoying the path and experiences I go on. I absolutely love being a technician and seeing all of the furry creatures 🙂

What was your 9 year old dream career? (Or 10, 11, 12, etc!) And have you fulfilled that dream, or taken a different path?
